Once again, it’s time for another development team update!
What a hectic couple of months it has been here at Salty, from new teams to new developments there has been a lot happening since we last posted an update in March. So today I’m here to give a quick run down of what’s been happening, and I shall be doing this by breaking it down into our three teams: Salty Studios Dev Team 1, Salty Studios Dev Team 2 and Unlucky Magician.
First off let’s start with Salty Studios DT1 and Lawson’s Shadow.
So, what’s up with Lawson’s Shadow? Well we are happy to announce: quite a lot. Last year we showed off the early alpha build of what is now the tutorial level of the game. Not long ago we shared a new warehouse-like level that we have begun building.
“The goods aren’t so easy to get anymore!”
As of now we are really honing in and focusing on these two levels as well as finalising the script, audio and overall design. Our plan for this is to make sure the game is at a standard we are happy with and that we have a base to go off for all our levels. Team 1 is a small team comprised of people who balance families, work and other commitments and we dedicate as much time to this as possible. We all have the dream of making this game but not at the cost of our livelihoods; we thank you for your patience in all this.
So, what does that mean for fans and eager players? The game is still coming, the team is still working hard but as with all things it will take time. We have plans and a road map we intend to stick by. The team will be missing PAX AUS this year to focus on development but that doesn’t mean we won’t be there. You may recognise the team around the convention this year so if you see us come say hello and we would be happy to talk about the game more.
Next up is our newest addition the smaller team of Salty Studios DT2 and their currently unnamed FPS project.
We have been keeping an eager eye on the new addition to the company and have been blown away by what they are creating. Consisting of some of Lawson’s Shadow team and some newcomers, the currently untitled gun game is something we are very keen to show off. The team got the idea after working on mechanics for LS and wanted to expand it into its own thing.
They worked hard at presenting their idea to management and now we are happy to confirm its development. As mentioned in our last post we have been fortunate enough to have some people join us to assist in various ways on LS, so we are super excited that they wanted to stay on and continue with a project of their own. Look out for some announcements in the future.
And now lastly, our third and final team, Unlucky Magician.
Born from a collaboration idea at PAX Aus last year, UM was founded as a way to focus on the fun and wacky aspect of games. Old classics with new twists, random approaches to genre staples. So, what are they working on, you may ask?
As you have probably seen posted, the team is getting their feet wet with a take on the match-3 genre. Built with a focus on speed, the game will be designed to be played in quick bursts. The game is around 60% complete and is being finalised but what we can announce is that there will be three game modes that players can compete in for the highest score or best time. And they are:
· Moves – With a limited number of moves, score as much as possible.
· Time Attack – The clock is counting, how fast can you match, plan moves for the biggest reward.
· Score Hunt – How fast can you reach the score target?
As mentioned above, it’s a speedier take on a classic genre and something we hope you will like. As well as all this planning, UM has begun on their local multiplayer focused couch game. They are working with local Aussie talent to bring out something crazy and unique.
And that’s all, really. Three teams, four games and a lot of dedication and love. As a company we can’t wait till we can start sharing more but for now we thank you for all your support and hope to share more soon.
