Welcome to another big update, this time for Down Tilt. There are a few things I want to cover but let's begin with this: 2017 was a great year for us seeing steady numbers both for competitions and streams as well as the success of the first 3 circuit events featuring Hobart players.
We end the year with the signing of Pierce "PAZX" Purcell, who went on to represent us over in America and Japan. One of the things we discussed when wanting to sign on a player was who could represent our brand and our vision the best. Too many people think sponsorships are about just the player but like any brand deal, it's about what they can do for us and what we can do for them. And so far it has been an amazing ride and we can't wait to see how the rest of 2018 goes for PAZX.
In 2017 we finally took on a logo and some branding!
So what's happening in 2018? Well firstly, it has now been made official that I will be stepping down from Down Tilt duties and current TO, and Salty Studios upper management member Max Connell will be taking over from me. This is to allow me to focus more time on the dev teams and Max can put his focus entirely on Down Tilt.
Secondly, Smash @ GUF, our premier Launceston based Smash 4 scene is going through some changes. This year we are implementing a smaller circuit-like event consisting of minor and major weeks that take place during the school year calendar.
So first in the school holidays, S@G will run the opposite week of the Hobart fortnightlies so that we can encourage our players to travel down, whilst during the school terms we begin our minor and major week system.
Minor weeks are our standard $5 entry weeklies where players fight for points and are then ranked from there. That leads us to our major week, held roughly at the end of each month and costs $20 enter, players enter for more cash, more points and bonus ranking points.
This simple change will allow us to reignite some passion and competitive spirit in the scene and also hopefully encourage more people to attend with its cheaper cost of entry. More news and updates on how it will all come together will be coming soon as well as the release of the first couple weeks of results from S@G.
Other things to quickly mention:
- Don't forget to subscribe to us on YouTube (link) for uploads of previous games.
- We are looking into expanding into other games this year, mainly DBFZ and possibly Rocket League.
- Planning of a Launceston major continues with new funding.
- Circuit comes to a close this year in June.
