At the beginning of this year I set myself a simple goal, to try and solo make a game as much as possible before the end of the year. For all the time I've been making games I've done so mainly as the designer with light work on both the programming and art side. So with the fact that so much has happened with Salty Studios in a way I didn't think possible I began my personal journey with the Salty Studios side team, Unlucky Magician.
To begin my journey I purchased some amazing tutorials from udemy.com and started working on them in my spare time as I worked on both Lawson's Shadow and the new game from our secondary team. As the small projects fell into place I felt an understanding comeback from when I used to dabble in the code myself.
From a basic number wizard style game to a more complex platformer, I continued to gain some skills before deciding to work on a project more suited for release. My goal was to release a match-3 game that had a lot of the overbearing level and money-making mechanics taken out and kind of stripped back to its routes.
Over the next couple of weeks I will be sharing my own game journey as well as what the teams are cooking up. Lawson’s Shadow is under a big sheet of secrecy, the second team’s other game will be revealed soon, and Unlucky Magician has some projects we hope to share with you soon.
